How do you do to survive?
on: November 21, 2003, 03:09:11 PM
I wonder all you pianists (professional) if you are freelanced concertpianist, and do not have a teaching position (bec. you are too young or don't want...) except for some private students (but that salary is not enough). How do you to survive living, like paying the place, maybe the piano , food, phone bills etc etc and same time are doing competition includes lots of money like travellling, the fee etcetc. To survive all this things depends of course each inviduality if living alone or sharing etc-but it would be interesting to hear how YOU survive all these practical things in life except practising all your time?..unless you already are millionaire

ok-I see-it is very private matter and very serious for each one of you. Anyway-just tell about briefly -how do you do to survive? (not only what you eat hahaha but how to earn money at the same time practising all day ( if you are prof-not student - and not teaching position...) you got it?

I'm studying Physics at the moment so that if it doesn't work for me in music, I can become a physicist.
Of course I'm just 18, so right now I'm still financially dependent on my parents.

The trick is being open to many different opportunities. I know of piano teachers here at school who do the following:
teach a couple classes at school
have some private students
are acoompanists for choirs or other ensembles
work in churches
do there own recitals.
These are just a few possibilities. Just be creative. I personally just practice all day and then bum off my parents.
