which way does the sound of a piano travel?

I'm thinking of moving into a different apartment. (since my neighbour below me doesn't allow me to play). 
Would moving into a basement apt be better? 
What do you think?

Sounds like an aweful environment for a piano. Usually basements are cold and humid. But yeah, I guess it would be more insulated since you'd have nothing below you and to the sides.
