fast, fun, & short
on: April 12, 2006, 02:32:10 PM
so...i just found out I have about 3 weeks to add a third song for this mini recital...

i'm looking for a fun (to listen to & play), fast, & short (2-4 minutes) piece.
difficulty...about the less than ginastera's danzas criollas, and mendelssohn's fantasy in f# minor--i wanna make sure i get it learned well, and up the par.

thanks for all of your suggestions

being that mendelssohn was a fan of js bach - maybe something from bach's english or french suite's?  just an idea.  not sure how well it will go with your program.

Antonio Soler: Sonata 7
Felipe Villanueva: 3 danzas humorísticas
Miguel Bernal Jiménez: Parangaricutirimicuaro (from "Cartels")
Some Scarlatti, I suppose
Gounod: Marche funebre d'une marionette
Chopin: 2 Bourrées
Prokofiev: Romeo and Julieta, op. 75
Mendelssohn: Spinning song

not enough time for any of these in only 3 weeks, I think.  these pieces take months upon months..

I recommend Chopin's minute waltz, or a similar light waltz that is 'short, fast and fun'

Yes i agree with Prokofiev Romeo and Juliet, suggested earlier. But there are ten pieces so i suggest "Mercutio". I've played it. It's a garanteed crowd-pleaser.

Also i can suggest Shchedrin's "Humoresque". A very funny piece. Not hard at all. Have a look at Hamelin's video of it.  ;D HAHA

John Cage - 4'33"

If you play it faster, you can fit it somewhere in your allocated timeframe.

I second etincelles, but may be kinda hard to pull off in 3 weeks lol...

How bout some Chopin preludes?

Try the C# minor, C major, G# minor, D major... there's others but those are some of my favorites, and all really short.
Interested in discussing:

-Prokofiev Toccata
-Scriabin Sonata 2

Schchredins Humoresque will be a great piece to end on, and a great chance to inject some comedy into your recital so your audience members will leave with a funny memory. It's definately fun to play, but not exactly fast. Still a good choice methinks.

I just saw Chopin prelude no.4 listed above ... which is neither fast nor fun.  Prelude No.3 (g major) fits the criteria though as do several of the scriabin op.11 preludes

Don't know this one, and I couldn't find it, but it sounds fun.  Is the spelling right?

Thanks.[

Gigue in g major by Mozart.  I don't remember the K number, but it is 400 or 500 something.  Great music.
