What can I play next?
on: April 12, 2006, 10:38:43 PM
Hey, I'm currently playing several pieces, but have finished off my [only] romantic piece.

Right now I'm currently learning Bach Italian Concerto, Grieg Sonata, Ravel Sonatine, Ginastera Danzas Argentinas, and Rachmaninoff Etude Tableaux Eb major op33.  I have progressed alot in each of these pieces, so nothing that I have listed above is too difficult.

I have finished the Brahms Rhapsody in G a while ago, and I would like to begin another romantic piece.  Any suggestions?

-Prokofiev Toccata
-Scriabin Sonata 2

Keeping off the beaten track (which i like to do), I would suggest

Tausig - The Ghostship
Liszt - Pacini - Niobe Fantasy
Thalberg - Bellini - Sonnambula
Pabst - Tchaikovsky - Sleeping Beauty

If you get tempted to play "La Campanella", play the 1837 version or the Busoni version.

I is almost permanently stuck in the Romantics.

take your pick from these:

brahms: rhapsody in Eb op.119
chopin: ballade no.1 in g minor
debussy: reflets dans l'eau or hommage a rameau (from 1st set of images)
liszt: un sospiro (5th concert study)
rachmaninov: prelude no 21 in b minor

and my all time favourite piece -

ravel: 'ondine' from gaspard de la nuit

hope this helps.
