on: April 12, 2006, 11:18:20 PM
well loads of people have done this, sorry, but im stuck as to what to learn next.
i've just finished:

bach - prelude & fugue no 24 in b minor
beethoven - pathetique sonata
chopin - ballade 1
debussy - reflets dans l'eau
liszt - un sospiro
ravel - ondine from gaspard

i would love to do pieces like these, but with one big piece like a sonata or concerto or something
any help would be greatly appreciated

You don't say whether you want something Classical, Romantic, etc--but how about:

Mozart Sonata in A minor K310, or K332 in F Major
Mozart Piano Concerto--no 9 in E-flat (K271) is wonderful and dynamic, or any one from no 14 through no 27.

Shostakovich Piano Concerto (also has one trumpet) - no 2, I think--great piece!

Debussy Poissons d'Or or Feux d'Artifice

have fun!--Teresa

I think these are good choices of composers, so I'm going to stick with them for my suggestions:

Bach - Maybe explore WTC Book II?  Or a Toccata  - you might try f# minor.
Beethoven - Maybe a middle sonata, Op. 78 or 90?
Chopin - I think the clearest next step would be a sonata.
Debussy - The "Pour le Piano" suite is nice.
Liszt - A transcendental etude or paganini etude.
Ravel - Concerto in G Major?

Best,
Michael

What concertos have you done?  What 20th century, and what classical sonatas aside from that one?

You should get some Brahms in your rep if you don't have any.  Try any opus from 116-119, or a Rhapsody.  If you don't have many etudes, look into Scriabin op. 2 and 8, and Chopin Op. 10 #2, 3, 4, 8 and Op. 25 #7.   Just some ideas.  If you can play Ondine, I'm sure you can handle most things, it's just a question of expanding your piece selection.  With Chopin, make sure you have some smaller stuff...like Nocturne Op. 27 No. 1 or 2.  If you like impressionism, you should definitely know Debussy's L'Isle Joyeuse.
