I dont fully understand it... I know it is music representing a story... or a happening, it has some meaning etc but I am still confused.. if anyone can give me a better explanation. I know Dukas "L'apprentice Sorcie" and Saint Saens "Carnaval of the Animals" are examples are examples of program music, but I dont know why. How do you portray a happening in music? Isn't it just a matter of personal perception?
My problem is I have to write a programatic work as part of my final school composition exam, and I dont know what the hell to "write" about. I need ideas. I was thinking maybe a representation of all the ethereal elements (heaven, hell, generally the fantasy world- march of the dwarves, frogs chorus etc) I dunno. How? If anyone can give me ideas... Even on a story whatever. I need help on this. Desparately... Thanks.
