Rage over a lost Penny
on: April 16, 2006, 08:33:58 PM
I just found the Music to Beethoven's Op.129, Rondo a Cappriccio a.k.a Age ove a lost penny.  I love this piece when I just sight-read through it.  I can't sight-read really well and I'd love to hear what It actually sounds like, does anyone have a recording of themselves or a Big guy playing this piece, because I cannot find it anywhere.  It's such a humorous piece with such a story to it.  I was surprised when I realizes Beethouven wrote it because It doesn't really strike me as his kind of thing, but I'm sure glad he wrote it.

Thanks for you help!

Kissin's is probably thh best version going around I think.  I only have it on dvd but I think you can get it quite easily on limewire.

It gets a bit boring to me. What is it? 400 measures of the same thing?

Actually they are variations on a theme. That's the beauty of it. The rage goes in different keys and accompaniments to show how perhaps the person is raging in everyway possible over the penny, which in this case is the theme.

I have played this piece before and it indeed is a bity boring, and it actually is quite a fun piece. It improves your left hand wrist technique (chord chord chord) and your right hand flexibility (broken chordssss)

type in 'Beethoven Kissin' into the audio section of limewire and it should come up.  Coz it just did with me!

Tryin typing in 'Kissin' and you will get the results you wanted. (in the video field)

Doesn't matter what you type, you get the same results in video anyway

it sounds like the sountrack off one of those old black and white films with no sound.... when they're chasing each other round a table trying to hit each other with umbrellas or theres a woman tied to a traintrack...

It does which makes it toatlly awesome, the runs up and down the piano make me think of a shop owner chasing the raging man around with a broom.

C'mon now. Who would really have rage over a lost penny. They are worthless, I wouldn't even bend down to pick one up (well, maybe for the luck I would).

Random fact: If the price of zinc keeps rising, a penny could be worth more than one cent, thereby being more economical to melt it down. Right now the metals in the penny are worth about .8 of a cent.

Was "Rage over a lost Penny" Beethoven's original title?

pennies were worht a lot more back then. You could buy alot of stuff with a penny.  I doubt it's his original title, I've never seen any of his pieces with a colourful title like that that he actually called it that.  (I.e. Moonlight sonata, some poet decided to call it that)

Here is the mp3 if ur still looking for it. Done by Evegeny Kissin, and is very fast, but of course very well done. I have another recording, a little slower, if you want it send me a message.

Good Luck taking on the piece.  ;D

Talk about fast and furious, however gentle and not irascible. Very good recording, I wish I could reach such a speed. Practice is essential however.
