jazzy compositions
on: April 19, 2006, 04:38:47 PM
hello,

after having been playing classical music for 14 years, I'd like to play some 'new music', however I do not imply the idea of atonality or serialism or phasing or any of that sort of 'contemporary' musical ideas.

anyone has any idea about jazz(y) pieces? I am looking for some melodic and beautiful pieces to play just for the fun of it, something in the category of smooth jazz or something like that. the stores I've been to all sell very beginner sheet music or something transcribed  from a pop song for piano solo. I want something that's original, level around hm... Chopin grande polonaise, Liszt transcendental etudes, Brahms op.118, you get the idea.

thanks so much!  ;D

(I am aware that a lot o jazz music, if not all, are improvised, but there must be some quasi-jazz or jazz that are written, in some sort of form.)
Go eat salt.

I have a jazz solo book if you want the PDF file for it... nothing extremely difficult, but good songs.

I don't mean to be negative, but you might want to consider transcribing some solos yourself.

One other thing, you won't find any smooth jazz that's around the level of, "Chopin grande polonaise, Liszt transcendental etudes, Brahms op.118."  I'm sorry but try to steer away from smooth jazz, if you like that type of classical music.
