Opinions - YDP131 vs CLP220?
on: April 19, 2006, 09:34:50 PM
Guys,

How do you feel these two digi pianos compare?

The CLP220 is obviously more expensive, but in what areas is it superior?

Worth the extra?

Im thinking of picking one up to use for late / early practice and also as a midi controller in the studio. The price I can get on the YDP131 is cheaper than a hammer action midi controller anyway, so why not? Only thing is, not sure which one to get! It doesnt have to sound amazing, but it would be nice to have a realistic action and response. Thats probably the priority.

Cheers,

SJ

Guys,

How do you feel these two digi pianos compare?

The ydp131 doesn't sound like it has the same weighted action as other yamahas?
The ydp113 OTOH, is more or less a p60 or the old clp-110.

The clp-2xx models added the GH3 action [which was only on the top clp-1xx models before], which has additional sensors supposedly to allow faster repetition. Some of the clp-2xx models have a 4-layer sample instead of 3 layers.

From the criteria of crap sound / good action / midi controller. I'm not sure yamaha gets more than 1 out of 3. Although some like the action. OTOH not many stage pianos make good midi controllers when compared with good midi controllers.

But, if the midi features they have are good enough for what you want - the newer casios are probably a better bet price wise and worth checking out.

The new gem prp models and Kawai's new stage pianos with the awa-4 action [mp4 or es4] might be better from an action pov [you'll just have to live with the much better sound they both make ;) ]

Yamaha have just announced some CP-xx models that are more geared towards midi control - with mod wheels and so on.

All of those are stage pianos rather than furniture models though [although most have an equiv furniture model with the same electronics, quiet practise doesn't really equate to paying extra for veneered mdf and a 30w+ amp/speaker system]

Hmmm, interesting, I shall have to look into those other brands. I used to much around a Kawai ages ago, but it was before I started learning to play so I'v no idea if it was any good or not!

Appreciate the input, cheers.
