Hoping for your informed opinion on a purchase :)
on: November 29, 2003, 10:35:41 PM
Hi folks!
I know nothing about painos. Zip, zilch. Nada.
HOWEVER
My wife plays, grew up with them, and LOVES them. She is very eager to get a piano for our home, and I support that.
At the local large piano dealer and refurbisher today, we saw a gorgeous restored Walnut Gerard-Heintzman. It was a flawless finish, really nice interior. I believe he said it was made originally in 1915 timeframe (date escapes me). The sound seem rich and deep, with beautiful tones and bass even to my untrained ears
The price is 7500 Canadian + tax, delivered. My wife was looking for a "Heintzman" although she had not heard of the "Gerard-Heintzman" name before. From her eyes and our discussions afterward, I can tell she loves it despite qualms about price (we aren't rich, just "upper middle class"
Any thoughts on this type of a purchase? Sound reasonable? It comes with a 5 year warranty. It does not have ivory keys however, they are a marbled looking "plastic" that appears to be high quality.
Id like to make an informed decision, so I hope you folks can provide some insight.
Best Regards
Jarrett

Is this a grand or vertical? Either way Heintzman was one of Canadas' best manufacturers. If this is a fully restored vertical, the price is on the high side.

Hi there,
Yep, it's a fully restored vertical. I'm a bit dismayed to hear it is priced too high though, since I already sorta indicated to the guy I would be buying it pretty soon :\
