Bach English and French Suites

has anyone here played some of these pieces or heard good recordings of them. i'm planning to sight read a couple of them, which one's do you suggest? i liked the french suite 4 in e flat BWV 815(i think) how are the others?

Murray Perahia's recordings of the English Suites are excellent.
If you are just planning on sight reading them, I recommend .... all of them!

The English Suites are more difficult than the French suites.
I suggest to study the English Suites in G minor and in A minor.

I had some difficulties in playing the English Suites many years ago instead I played the Well Tempered Clavier with less problems.
Perhaps I loved more the Preludes and Fugues.

Even if you're not going to perform them at all, pretty much every one of them are great to study and learn from.

As a guitarist/bassist, it's a lot of fun to arrange Bach's keyboard works into duet pieces.

I wouldn't mention Hewitt as a genuine musician, especially comparing her to Perahia.  She makes pretty sounds but pretty sounds doesn't make music. ::)

I love French Suites nos. 5 and 6 (in that order). I also love English Suite No. 2, and I've played the prelude. It seems to me that the preludes are the hardest (and best) parts of the English Suites.

Uhm... Why do you listen to the pieces b4 sight reading them? It kind of ruins the sight reading part...

Pogorelich recorded English suites nos 2 & 3 in an impressive recording. No 2's sarabande is especially haunting. Then of course there's Gould's complete set to consider which is remarkable if you forgive the sometimes less than ideal piano sound.
Schiff's French Suites might be worth a listen as are Gould's.

My favorite recording of both sets is Gould, I also like Perahia's english suites.

French suite no.2 is the most sight-readable and the easiest.
