:o I dont know whether to laugh or cry!

Wow, that kids has some talent. Obviously not an A grade rendition of the ole fella, but never the less pretty astounding for a kid so young (and small!). At his age, I couldnt even spell Impromptu, never mind play it.

That cameraman was a right (woah, the filter didn't filter out b*st*rd), ending him half way through cos he was running out of time! I would have preferred him to have just kept recording till he ran out of time, and not rudely interrupting the kid! Poor ickle kid...

What was wrong with it?  (Seriously :-\)  I haven't heard that many "great" pianists, and to me the kid sounded like he was on the right track.  He was shaping his melody not just bringing it out.  I don't get why it isn't good?

For an 8 year old, it's definitely first class!  However, you asked, so I'll tell ya.

The difference between him and a great pianist who's been studying for 4 times that kid's age is simple.  Clarity and maturity.  That kid, while doing an awesome job at it for his age, lacks the muscle tone (speaking of coordination) to make it an entirely convincing performance.  His right hand is lagging behind his left hand and he never really centers on the beat.  He's calculating the right hand against the left hand instead of just playing it fluidly, and the tone he creates is all the same -- no variation in dynamic range to speak of.

I'm not saying he's playing it bad.  I could only play "Mary had a little lamb" and "heart and soul" when I was 8, so my hat's off to him.  But you asked... ;D
