CD clubs?
on: April 24, 2006, 10:19:21 PM
I got a mailing from a CD club.
Has anyone ever had success with these things? Are they a scam? Is there a trick to it somewhere?

The catch is mostly in the smallprint.
Usually along the lines that you have to buy 3 cd's a month at $5000 each for the next 600 years.
I would be careful.

maybe what you'd rather do is buy a collection. i think bernhard or thalbergmad made some suggestions to me for piano concerto collections.
was looking on e-bay and there was an old record collection that i wished i could have bought - don't really know why. this is called 'impulse buying.' it directly stated that one of the records was scratched. also, it would cost to convert to cd , though not much because i think wcu has a cd burner that you can transfer old records to cd's.
anyway, bob...here's my point. go to your music library and burn the cd's. how much cheaper can you get them? say they are for 'study purposes.' just to cover yourself, don't copy the last 10 minutes. of course, if it's out-of-date, no worries, right! some of the best recordings are the old ones. once you get going on this - then graduate to stealing some cd's from friends and returning them the next time you visit. (just kidding). though, i could almost verify that some of mine have gone missing and then suddenly returned. perhaps i just misplaced them). anyway, in an impulse move i bought a lot of piano concerto cd's. it was the best thing i ever did. much nicer to choose your own music for trips and things to listen to while travelling. it's better than paying for therapy.
