repossessions
on: April 25, 2006, 02:00:43 AM
has anyone bought a car through auction?  is this too big of a risk?  what do you generally look for?  (chip the paint a little when no one is looking to see if the color is just fingernail polish).  i'd like to think we might find a good deal - but do the good deals go somewhere else.  if they do, where do you find where the good deal cars go?  back to dealerships?  where you pay taxes etc. again?  just wondering.

we got a great deal on a used-to-be fleet car that was getting near the driving limit they imposed.  we bought the car for little money and really got a lot of mileage out of it.

we have a pontiac odessey which drives really well for a mini-van.  what should we look for in a four door sedan?  that's really what we want for the second car.  what is the best gas mileage car for a couple of years or more old?  or, should we spend more and get an up-to-date energy efficient car.  also, my 16 year old son will be driving, so i'm kind of hoping to get a car that is probably older and has less crash damage properties.   although, then i think about gas prices and go back to the new car idea.

I have had several friends who have bought cars from police auctions and all the cars have turned out to work just fine.
