Anybody know of good Circus-y music?
on: April 26, 2006, 04:14:30 PM
I need examples of circus music that has a more modern twist to it - harmonies - rhythms, etc.  Anybody know of any?

If you could get a piano transcription Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite by the Beatles, it would fit the bill.

Hamelin's Circus galop, crazy stuff,

That's not playable is it?

Some Prokofiev has a sort of off-kilter, circusy feel to it. Can't think of anything specific, though...

Nope, it was composed for two player pianos.  :P

But the hell it is amazing ! I just love the finale !! It made me burst out of laughing.

Cheers

The start of the 6th symphony 3rd mov. starts sort of similar but sort of kills itself in the end.

Mozart pahtasie number 3 I think.  It's more of a creepy circus music, like in a h orror film, at least that's what it alsways makes me think of.

Schott publishes it, but I do not have a score.  I would say it's probably early advanced.  Maybe at the approximate level of Debussy's Children's Corner(?).  I haven't looked at the score in about a year or so - sorry I can't be more specific than that.

The start of the last section of his PC No. 1 somehow reminds me of clowns...

True some of of prokofiev's piano concertos could sound like that... But they are masterpieces..  The fifth piano concerto .. second and last movement come to my mind ... but there are lot of other examples.... Also Ravel's piano concerto in G ( one of my favourite piano concertos)...........
Also.. Stravinsky- circus polka for  a young elephant... love that piece..
and Schredrin- Old Russian Circus music..
Infact even his concerto for orchestra no.1 "naughty limericks"
