Singing for weddings... (?)
on: April 26, 2006, 10:37:30 PM
Does anybody have some recommendations on what I would ideally want to put together to be able to sing for weddings ?

Thanks,
m1469

Were you thinking of repertoire, or more like components of a sound system, or maybe recorded accompaniments if you're not doing it yourself?  If repertoire, are you soprano, alto, coloratura or lyric, High church or Low?  I'm guessing the Eagles's "Love the One you're With" does not suit your voice.  Hee, hee.

There is a movie called Wedding Singer.  It is one of my wife's favorites, she watches it all the time.  Might want to rent that one.  Be warned, there is significant chic flic content, and relative absence of car chases and guns.

oh... hah ah... where's my head ?  Well, I am talking about repertoire suggestions and I sing soprano and I do not understand what you mean by "high church or low" ?  Anyway, thanks and I have seen the movie.  Am I supposed to take repertoire hints from that ?

m1469,

I applaud your desire to perform.  That takes music to a whole different level.

I think the message from Wedding Singer is not about specific repertoire choices, but a more general concept of pleasing the customer.  You are no longer singing for noble art, you are a customer service provider, and you have to flip that switch in your mind before you start.

Well, as far as a "noble art" is concerned, I think this is as close as anybody has ever truly come to that (you may have to connect a few dots here but you like riddles, right ?) :

  ;D

Otherwise, I have pretty much given up on such a thing.  Yep, pretty much all I care about is the money so I can buy myself a beautiful piano  ;D ;D

Thanks,
