It's scaring me a little, as we put blue cistern blocks in the upstairs toilets. She only drinks from the downstairs one, where there's no blue cistern, but she might start drinking out of the ones with it in and I'm pretty sure that it might kill her!!

Or poison her in the very least.... butI don't want my kitten to die! :'( :'(

close the lid...

or buy cat reppellant spray..its 10 bux at the local pet shop..

lemon cent and citrus cents detter cats

place aluminum foil on toilet seat cants cants tand the feel of stepping on it..she will associate it with a bad experience and might never do it again..

catch her in the act and try to correct her..although its difficult to train cats if you dont know how..

PM me if none of these work

Investigate why she does that. It could be for 2 reasons:

1) The water you giver her does not satisfy her.
2) It's only a bad habit.

If it is the second I cannot help you. But maybe if you buy tasty water for her she will stop drinking from there.

spray the kitty with a spray/squirt bottle/gun when you catch and reprimand loudly and angrily.

Simple - throw the friggen kitten into the toilet and hear it scream while it's soaking wet...  8)

You can go further with that. Throw it in the toilet, shut the lid and flush, it will never go near a toilet again.

aww, poor cat.  keep the lid closed.  Make sure it has enough water in its water bowl.  My cat does that too.

If not done correctly, that idea might be akin to this one

Haha, my cat does that too, but keeping the lid closed solved the problem. Have you tried that? It should work considering that cats don't open lids...

The toilet in my dorm room would have no problem with a mere kitten.  It has more horsepower than my car.

Those are the kind of toilets I like, as I seem to block the pansy ones.

Problem solved: lids kept closed.

Thanks for the advice guys!

I would keep the bathroom door closed.  A kitten probably can't get the lid up, but still they are better at getting into things than getting out of them.  Don't use cistern blocks; most contain a very strong bleach which will burn an animal's throat.  Also, if they get it on their paws you will have little bleached paw prints on your carpets leading to the bathroom.  When it gets big enough that drowning is not an issue, then let it alone.  It will fall in at some point; lesson learned.

One of our cats was endlessly fascinated with flushing toilets.  We didn't mind much, but it really unnerved our guests.

Will this burn come from as soon as she laps it up? And how serious will it be? If it's not that serious, and is easily recoverable, I think I'll leave them in there as she's a biatch to teach stuff without her realising the true end result of her wrong doing. Would one lap of their tongue be enough to give them an instant reaction, and not harmful enough to harm them in anyway other than a quick pain?

I know, I know.... I sound sadistic, but it's the only way she'll ever learn.
Henrah

EDIT: I don't want to stop using cistern blocks as it's real fun watching the toilet water turn green ehhe

If it takes humans 7 (+/- 2) to learn something*, imagine what it would take a stupid infant animal.  I think the neural pathway that connects cause and effect is mostly absent in cats. It will drink out of the toilet, get violently ill and do it again until it's nine lives are exhausted.  In fact, cats brains in general are wired in a most peculiar way, hence their charm.

Anyway,  here's some info on the cleaner

*It is a testament to the breadth of Bernhard's wisdom that his method can even shed light on how to deal with cats drinking out of the wrong bowl.  I hope he takes no offense.

She won't drink it and taste the foul taste and the burning of the throat and stop? Is the burn instant or delayed, i.e. will it take quite a lot of drinking to start burning?

Thanks for the info,
Henrah

my grandafather's dog used chew on the hinges of his kitchen door, so he put hot english mustard(yum) on the hinges and problem solved,
of course that's when the problem of drinking from the toilet began ;) ;D.
however i'm afraid i cant think of a way to adapt that to the toilet bowl.
Henrah, I think you should go over to your vet (or call) and have a chat with him or her, that's a sure way to get all your questions answered and maybe even a solution..
