My sister is depressed now, and wants to kill herself.

I wonder how she'd go about doing it... could somehow take herself and the whole of the England team out, so Rooney wouldn't be completely to blame for. Heh, craziness  ::)

Wow, just nerds on this forum. Nobody cares about England's WC hopes, now effectively dashed?

That's right. I hate World Cup time. Football is shoved in your face everywhere you go. Even in Scotland, who has possibly the team least likely to actually get into the bloody thing, it's football football football football football football football... Boring!

Anyway, since when does it make someone a nerd not to like football? Football is crap. (IMO)

I would have thought that football was on the opposite end of the nerd spectrum, i.e. the jocks.

We had no chance with him and now we have got no chance without him.

I fail to see the difference.

Why is he out, anyway? Did he do himself an injury carrying Coleen's shopping bags?

i very much agree with thalberg, there are better teams than england participating and the are better players than wayne rooney.

Yes but now we don't have a brand-spanking new player that everyone can put hope in, despite us not having a chance anyway.

Only players that are well rested can excell on the WC. I mean, some players of Arsenal and Barcalona will be very tired. I will be suprised if Ronaldinio and Henry play well on the WC. But then Henry has always played bad in the second half of the season. It is just that he was injured in the first part. And that is he reason why he played well in the Champions League. I am not sure how many games he played this season but he probably will be too tired.

Those players that have just come back from injuries and just played their first match, and granted that their injury is really over, can be the stars of the WC.

Furthermore, I think about half of the teams that are going to compete have a chance to win. Remember Greece(last time) and Denmark(1990) on the EC and South Korea on the last WC. Sure, Brazil wins a lot of times. But the teams without the big stars can win. They can have a very strong team. With some luck they can beat anyone.

Will Messi be back on time? Timing is essential.

i dont think they will have the same effect as rooney, but marlin harewood and jermaine defoe could step in. darren bent is capable of inflicting damage.
you wont win with erikson as you manager either, that would surprise me.
gerrard and joe cole can score goals from mid field.
i'm afraid peter crouch doesnt impress me...
will be interesting to see what happens.
i guess holland will have some well rested key players in the likes of van niestelrooy and robben.

Possibly. But every Liverpool fan is singing of joy. I hate Rooney, a good played, but why Manchester? why?
Pluss he is ugly.

Robben was well rested during the EC and he played well. I wonder if he will be in shape this time. He could be very important. The dutch team wants to play with true wings but we don't have top true wing players. Robben is the only one.

'We' also have Van Der Vaart returning from an injury. Question is if he will be in shape on time.

ey?

we have the best midfield in the world, with Terry a solid defence, reasonably good defender/wingers and with Rooney an awesome striker

sigh

the whole is more than the sum of it's parts and england are perpetual under acheivers considering the players that they have imo. Portugal, brazil, germany,  holland, czech republic, Argentina these are the teams that i expect to see doing well in the cup, not england, although it would be nice. but i'm used to seeing their mediocrity. and many did think that wayne rooney could turn this around.

But they have to announce who's playing in four weeks, and as it's a six week recovery they're going to have to decide whether Rooney will heal in the 2weeks after choosing and make a really tough decision. If they choose not to use him, and he miraculously heals up to 10x better than before before the match, that would be even worse.

Germany has a very poor team. But they always do well.

Spain always does poor and they rarely have good goalkeepers. Holland never won the WC before. And now they have a team with little superstars. Same for Italy.

It seems many countries try to build a real team with players that don't play in top teams. They are more willing to give all and they don't have to play as many matches and they. Also, those superstars that don't fit the teams can be easily kept out.
