Rachmaninoff Etude Tableaux Eb + Op.33
on: April 30, 2006, 03:15:42 PM
I'm nearly done this piece, but have a few fingering questions at some of the sections.

I've found that they offer fingering in the places that I feel kinda speak for themselves.  Their put in places that I dont think there could be an alternate fingering.  Firstly, from measures 6-7 they dont offer fingering, but I have kinda made up my own.  Sometimes it gets kinda sloppy:
  This is for the thirds only, 12, 12, 12, 13, 14, 12, 12, 13, 12, 12, 12, 13, 14, 12, 12, 13

So the ascending thirds, excluding the Bflat/Eflat higher note.  That's the way I play it, and occasionally I slip up, wondering if there's a better/less awkward fingering.

Secondly, the other set of ascending thirds, minus the higher notes, measures 17-18
My fingering always changes for that, and it's really sloppy; if someone could suggest a good finering that'd be great.

Lastly, measures 44-46, the lower chords, once again leave out the higher alternating note.  I always use 123 to play that chord, and the other two subsequent chords.  So for this I'm always doing 123, then 5 for the higher note after.  Is this a good fingering, or is it more efficient to change it for the other two chords.

If you're confused as hell from my crappy explanation, then whatever.

I tried measure 6-7 and found the one that suited me best was simply:
12, 13, 12, 13, 12, 13, 12, 13, 12, 13... and so on, on the thirds. After 5 minutes of practice i could play these bars almost perfect with this fingering. Also fifth finger on the Eb\Bb.

Measure 17-18 i find no problem using the exact same finger sentence, exept that you get you thumb on the F#, but that you can get used to.

As for 44-46 I would use this pattern: 123-123-123-124-123-123-123-124.....

Tell me what you think of this :)

Thanks for the suggestions, I'm gonna try these for a bit and see how it suits me.  I'm kinda of used to the way I do it, so it might be a while before I can get used to your way.  Thanks alot,
