am i good?
on: May 03, 2006, 05:50:20 AM
where i have lived, and all the people i have met, i get a lot that i am talented at piano. i find that piano is probably what i am best at, although i really slack, like, am super lazy with it. i started playing at 8. my teacher tried to teach me to read but i hated the songs, so we just kinda skipped out of reading..i learned fur elise and moonlight sonata as my two first actual songs. then at 9 i began to work on sonata pathitique, and finished that in 8 months. after that i learned scott joplins wragtime and finished at 10 1/2. then i stopped piano for a year, and started up again. i had a weird teacher though, he tought me jazz and i hated it. so i stopped again, lol, for a while. then at 13 i began again, with a new teacher. he was part of trinity college london, and although i have stopped lessons, again for the past 2 years, i still consider him my teacher. anyway, we learned fantaise impromptu, Etude in E Major, Op. 10, No. by chopin, and began some like Liebestraum No.3 in A flat by lizt but i then got super into piano concerto no.2 by rach, and no.3. no.3 was pretty hard and so i started focusing more attention on no.2 and got about half way done with the song, when varsity football came around. i realized i had one more year of football, and my lifetime to become good at piano, so stopped for the past two years. once this season ends, i will continue, and will devote time to learning how to read (i learn by ear/sight).

after reading all of you guys's pieces and stuff im wondering if i am still good/talented? im 17 right now, and i stopped at 15. i guess i am looking for some reassurance, call me a pussy lol sorry i just am curious. thanks for your time guys

Why are you asking some random people over the internet who have never seen or heard you play whether you are good or talented?  Even asking someone who doesn't know anything about piano, but has heard you once will have a more valid input than random people who just read your post.  I'm sure you know plenty of people who have heard you play if you've had that many teachers and played all those "songs."

Good is a relative term.  I'm sure you're not good compared to Horowitz or Richter.  I'm also sure that you kick the ass of the kids playing Chopsticks and Heart and Soul.  Don't worry about whether someone else on the board is better than you.  I'm not much of a pianist but I don't really care.  I play for fun not competition.
