Melody over arpeggios in one hand
on: May 08, 2006, 10:09:49 AM
Hi!

I'm looking for Late Elementary -Early intermediate pieces with slow arpeggios and melody played with the same hand.
 Does anyone have any suggestions?

Maybe the Moonlight Sonata by Beethoven.  That may be more advanced than you were looking for, but it has slow arpeggios, with the melody in the same hand.

Thanks, I had that in mind but I'm actually looking for easier pieces than that. (you're in the right direction though :))

Anyone?

ok hmm, arietta Op.12 No.1 by grieg? Arpeggios and nice melody in same hand also, and not hard at all.

There is 'About Strange Lands and People' from Schumann's 'Scenes From Childhood'.

How about a radical approach. Schubert's G flat Impromptu Op 90 no 3 is exactly what you are looking for, but way, way too difficult.

How about using the first few bars, say to the first cadence. Tipex out the key signature and change the key to G major. Change the tempo to very slow and play it at about half speed or less.

William Gillock's "Lyric preludes in Romantic Style" has some that fit the bill.

Specifically:
Forest Murmurs
A Faded Letter
Soaring
Night Song

Most of these are a page long, sometimes two.
