I don't really have any Asian friends, because they really stick together. The piano department at my school is like 98% Asian too. Okay...more like 80%. But still.

that's so true.  You see, I'm half asian; when asians look at me, they think I'm mexican or native american.  When white people look at me, they just think I'm asian.  Therefore, both whites and asians stay away from me.

haha just last week at a nursing home I volunteer at, I got into a conversation with this redneck, who upon learning that I'm a halfbreed, said "back in my day, whites only married whites.  and that's the way we liked it."

Honestly, when I first saw pictures of you, I thought you were Hispanic.

I'm Hispanic and I've been asked a few times in my life if I was Japanese or Vietnamese.  I've also been asked if I'm from India.

I'd like to disagree with you, but seeing as my parents have had about fifteen collisions over five years, I'll be quiet. :)

I'm Asian.
Ethnic Chinese from Hong Kong.

Why? Any difference?
If there is any difference other than skin colour, hair colour, eye colour and body built, its the looks. Asians look at least 10 - even 15 - years younger than their western counterparts of the same age.
Of course there are other differences. Like asians and caucasians have different habits. asians are rude, because of the way we lived back in ancient china. or you can look at samsui women. how they eat, squat, etc... because asians are workers. they work for caucasians. A long time ago in singapore, we were ruled by the British. Why? They were more advanced. More civilized. Since caucasians are more civilised, they do things with grace.

I hate threads like this because it leads to people becoming defensive and coming out with wild generalisations to try to prove that they're in some way "better" that the "opposition". Every single Asian person on the planet looks 10-15 years younger than every single white person of comparable age, do they? All of them? Met them all, have you? And, if you're somehow correct about this, so? Why's it important?

And, mycrabface, what are you on about?

Why can't people just enjoy our differences? I take comfort in the fact that, with everything happening in America, Iraq, the UK with our burgeoning teenage obesity/pregnancy/stupidity rates, there are cultures not so far away where everything is completely different. Such enormous diversity should be a great thing, and yet so many people insist that anyone who's different to them is not so much different as just wrong. Or at the very least that "they're" just a bit "worse" than "we" are. There's no point in making comparisons, especially when such comparisons rest on such meaningless generalisations.

Like my message said; anything you say about this is racism. Either positive or negative. Look how many replies we have. So many racsists on this forum. Right?

You can only talk about culture in China, culture in S-Korea, culture in Thailand, culture in Japan.

Culture in Europe and the US, etc.

Dutch people are rude. Maybe Chinese people are rude too, but China is big. Japanese culture has very sophisticated social customs so western culture is less 'sophisticated'.

Also, generalisations are generalisations. They are useful but by definition they are only accurate in general. Not in individual cases. There is nothing wrong with generalisations, except when one isn't aware of what a generalisation means.

Also, culture is not so simple.  It seems that by definition culture is always paradoxal. People are irrational. So culture makes no logical sense at all.

Also, contrary to what many people want you to believe. Culture is dynamic. It is always changing.

And, because of globalisations many countries and areas contain many different cultures. Cultures are fusing together. Cultures are absorbed and exported.

I'm not racist or anything, but there was one day where I was playing an online game with someone. He thought I was from america. When I told him I'm from singapore, he asked why - whether I migrated there or if I'm there on a holiday. I told him I live in singapore, and its my homeland. Then, he asked why I speak such fluent english...

So after I heard this, I wondered what others thought too, which is the reason for this poll. Okay the poll subject might be a little too irrelevant, but your participation is greatly appreciated.  ;)

You're from Singapore TOO!!!!!!??????
Wow, finally I meet someone who lives nearby. ;D
That guy you were playing the game with is SOOO racist.

Singapore is a dictatorship in practice.

Singapore is not a dictatorship. It's not run by just one person, but by one full government.

The Netherlands.

Point is that Singapore is a one party state since 1965. And for example the president won in an unopposed election because the other three candidates had been rejected by the 'Presidential Elections Committee'.

Technically, the term 'dictator' comes from Rome. It was a soft alternative to 'king', which was a taboo word. But in contemporary usage it is often use to refer to 'absolute rule'. In this case not by one person but by one political party.

Of course this is not uncommon in Asia. There are few functioning democracies in the region.

Not impotant at all, and I wouldn't initiate this topic at all. Just because I know too well that there are differences - vast differences in many aspects - and I savour this difference. Otherwise touring the world, for one thing, won't be any dream for anybody at all because no difference means no excitement nor joy at all to be derived from the world tour.

But since somebody initiated this topic again, and again, and again, and instead of yawwwwwwwning . . .
