sheet music suppliers
on: December 11, 2003, 03:46:03 AM
I was lamenting the fact again today that the area where I live has a pitiful selection of sheet music suppliers.  The best store around here has Beethoven, Chopin, Bach, Mozart, and other such basics; but when one wants something even a little out of the ordinary (Rachmaninoff, even) I have to get it off the internet.  By chance, does anybody know any good music suppliers in the area around either Baltimore, Washington D.C, or Philadelphia U.S.A.?  I live within about 2-3 hours of those cities, and could possibly get some music at a store there?

i live in n. va, and i usually get mine from Foxes music company in Falls Church.  It's a pretty long drive i guess from DC, but it's definately worth it.  They've got your basics, and much more, like jazz, soundtrack music, ravel, rach, prok, czerny (bleh), theory books (more bleh), music dictionaries, scott joplin, shostakovich, duet music, string quartet music, etc etc etc.

I live in the area as well.  There's O'Neil's in Waldolf which has a pretty great selection.  Usually though I just order my sheet music online.

Hmmm, I get most of my sheet music free online. Try https://www.mfiles.co.uk/index.htm although there is always a limit to the music selection when it's free. You can get a few Chopin pieces there. It's getting harder to find free online sheet music though. And some people prefer plainly to order the sheet music so I guess this doesn't help all people.

Baltimore, Washington D.C, or Philadelphia U.S.A.

Only three of the largest commercial centers on the North American continent! Us country folk, we have to buy all our music online. Of course they have a far better selection (esp. Hutchin's & Rea's), even if you can't browse. I prefer published over printed music because of the known editor/publisher, much more reliable (at least for pieces I actually learn).

Aside from ordering online, ask your piano teacher, they will have had lots of experience (obviously). Or ask your piano tuner, they have lots of connections.
