Introduction of Medtner's 1st piano concerto. (Not that I'd go so far as to call it "stupid" music, but I can't really stand it after 5 minutes :().

This is what's irritating me about these threads.  People are criticising the best pieces of music ever written based on what???? what THEY approve of or what sounds right or wrong to them, not what's musical, or what makes musical sence.
The Brahms concerto and the Beethoven concerto are the 2 greates violin concerto's ever written.  I know it's all subjective but it's all pointless to.

 :'( :'( :'(
First movement = compositionally one of the best pieces Alkan ever wrote, in my opinion!

On this topic, maybe the first five minutes of the Busoni concerto's first movement, since the rest of the movement kinda lags.

One of Alkan's most original and deep musical statements to boot.

Debussy preludes is 'stupid music'? :o

no! just the first 8 or so bars of prelude 9 from book 2

i would never say the debussy preludes are stupid, because a) it's arrogant, and b) i love the other 23

If only the other 65 minutes were at that level.

I think the fourth movement is GENIUS, even if it's not the deepest musical statement ever written. The third movement has its moments too (the first piano entrance is surreal).
