Excercises for speed
on: May 20, 2006, 01:14:35 AM
Hello all, im new here nice to meet you
I have recently (yesterday) begun learning "Flight of the Bumblebee".
I am an excellent sight reader so i have picked it up in no time, im just having ALOT of trouble getting it up to speed. Can anyone recommend some good excersises to practice to help get my fingers moving that quickly without tripping over them?
thankyou

how fast are you at the scale? Also make sure you aren't doing "thumb under" technique.

Uh, wrong. It's physically impossible to keep a legato with thumb over, and that's simply fact, because legato requires you to have the two notes pressed at once for a millisecond ot time.
The way to do it goddess is to practice tiny sections at a time, like one measure. Practice it at full speed, over and over, making sure to include the next note in the next measure. Then do the same for the next measure, and so on. Then combine two measures, then four measures, and so on, until you have mastered the piece.

Have you yet been through the Czerny School of Velocity?
