Hello! fellow Pianists I just wanted to say Hello, I am new to the forum and I think this site is great! Hear is my musical opinion.

GOULD! Anybody who plays Bach as sweet as that. BACH probably the GREATEST Composer that ever lived. I consider him the best overall because he did many works and dedicated his whole life to the Piano and living in one room for ten years just playing. Plus he played many other pieces besides Bach that were great.

I'm a fellow Gould fan, though I'm not sure how much of his non-Bach repertoire can be considered "great" when taken by themselves. Gould is my favorite pianist, but it's obvious he isn't exactly a well-rounded, versatile musician. I consider Richter the "greatest" all-around pianist of the 20th century.

Primarily, I'm interested in Gould's personal philosophy with regard to music and personal spirituality. Even though his application of his artistic philosophy to Mozart and some Romantic works yields some (quite frankly) atrocious results, it is consistent with everything else he professes. He is a polarizing figure: I think he is a genius, but I can also understand people who think he's just a genius at deception.

And its "Pogorelich", too, by the way...

Where's Grante?

Best,

Alistair

Indeed Grante is a good pianist, in his own right. But only an idiot would consider him one of the best of all time. If one should go by your logic, sholdn`t one then add all pianist?

So where is anon, and amazing pianist if I may say so ;D

Best,

It's all so subjective - but my favourite is none of the above!  ;) He was my piano teacher for several years and still is, on a when-I-desperately-need-a-lesson type of basis (not over often these days - that's not bragging, it's a case of not having any concerts recently therefore no need of a lesson......  :'( ) and I'm not mentioning any names but he's British.........  :)

Yes he was pretty good - I like the bit at the end of his video where he actually starts playing seriously for once - great stuff! (Wonderful sense of humour - just brilliant!!! Sadly missed, I think.)
