Fart question
on: May 28, 2006, 05:59:22 AM
when somone one farts and you smell it, the fart particles actually goes into your nose right? so that eew right? but do the fart particles do you body any harm? are they toxic?

I think they can be dangerous.

I once cleared a queue at McDonalds with one of my special egg and cabbage farts.

I believe the ammonia gives most of the smell (like 1% of a fart is ammonia)

It is not dangerous.

Remember that humans rarely if ever fart.  Pretty much all the farts in my house were done by the dog.  None were done by me, at least the ones that smell bad.

What is toxic to canines doesn't affect people.  Think of chocolate.  So knowing that farts are caused by dogs, and don't hurt people, should ease your mind.

Chemically the stench of fart is owing to "hydrogen sulphide (sulfide)" H2S. Not ammonia NH3.

And yes, hydrogen sulphide is a noxious gas. It's always better and nice to pass gas in open space  ;D

What's more, hydrogen sulphide can burn in air, and so can fart burn.
