Sibelius to PDF
on: June 01, 2006, 07:57:28 PM
Is it possible?

Can anyone here do it?

Would that person be willing to put my friends composition in Sibelius into a PDF?

Actually it isn't hard to do, you just have to install a PDF printer driver and then use the print command in Sibelius and select the PDF printer. Instead of printing to a printer it "prints" to a PDF. CutePDF is a free program you can use for this, you can download it at https://www.cutepdf.com/Products/CutePDF/writer.asp.

Otherwise you can send me the sibelius file and I will make the PDF for you.

Well Sibelius is giving me the blue screen, so could I send it to you? Where can I send it to?

Yes, the cutepdf one is the only one I've found that will successfully transfer music notation.  Instead of actually printing it on paper, you go through the same popup windows and use the cutepdf "printer" like it was printing out on paper.  It goes to a pdf file though.

You could also print to paper and then scan it back in as a pdf.

I think there is a way to print straight to pdf from Sibelius.  Or maybe that's Finale.  I'm sure the latest version could do that by now.

Creating PDF files
Portable Document Format (PDF) files allow documents generated by programs such as word processors and desktop publishers to be published electronically, preserving their original appearance, for viewing and printing on any system.

On Mac, no additional software is required. To save a PDF of your score, choose File > Print, and click the Save as PDF button.

On Windows, Sibelius supports the creation of PDF files provided you have a suitable PDF creator installed on your computer. The official PDF creator is Adobe Acrobat, which is a commercial product available from www.adobe.com for both Mac and Windows, but there are several free alternatives available, including PDFCreator, which you can download from:

https://pdfcreator.sourceforge.net

PDF files are generated by software that installs and behaves like a printer driver. This means that creating a PDF is as simple as printing a file from Sibelius, choosing the PDF "printer" as you do so. For further instructions, consult the documentation that accompanies your PDF creation software.

To view PDF files, you need to have the free Adobe Reader installed on your computer (on Mac you can use the built-in Preview application instead). You can download the latest version of Adobe Reader from:

https://www.acrobat.com
This is what it says in the help of sibelius... maybe you  could try the program it suggests? otherwise it's a good excuse to get a mac...

Tis all sorted thanks to anobidu :)

Thanks for the links etc guys, but my Sibelius - and my computer in fact - is quite screwed up at the moment. But I'll definately keep in mind this topic and the links so when it's working again, I'll get it.

Thanks again!
Henrah

P.S. So if anyone wants the score to my friends Serenade (of which a video of me playing it is in my signature), just ask.
