Who likes Keith Emerson?

I'd have to say that he was a clear genuis in the 70's with ELP. What do you all think?

Emerson is the man.  Have you seen his improv videos on youtube? Amazing.

Yes, I have. I love most of the stuff they have made. Especially Karn Evil 9 Part 2.
Right now, I'm trying to learn how to play Trilogy.

There's more on Youtube. They have Take a Pebble, parts of Karn Evil 9, parts of Pictures at an Exhibition, and one of my favorites: Pirates.

I love the final movement of his piano concerto. I also really like his piano piece called "Lachesis".

ELP is my favorite prog band of the 70s. I saw them live in concert in 1992, i was too youngˇˇˇ. Great show.
The masterpiece tell the performer what to do, and not the performer telling the piece what it should be like, or the cocomposer what he ought to have composed.

That has a really good 20th century feel. I like the first part with the royal festival organ.

I am quite sure you are wrong. To quote from wikipedia(I have read the same thing many oter places): As a child, he learned western classical music, from which he derived a lot of inspiration to create his own style, combining classical music, jazz, and rock themes.

I agree. Like Lake and Palmer, all three of them mastered their instruments through college.

He is the greatest keyboardist of Progressive Rock music. His Tarkus and Karn Evil 9 are a masterpiece.
He also composed a piano concerto:

Ithink he's a great player. But he's certainly not the 'best'/'greatest' as people call him.
There are equally virtuous piano/keyboard players which don't get the eyeballs they deserve...and the best example is- Nicky Hopkins!

Pictures at an Exhibition was the first album i ever bought, aged 13, in the early 1970s.  I still can't hear or play the Great Gate of Kiev without singing Greg Lake's words.  "Death ... is .... life".
