You either do or do not. There is no try- Yoda

Life is like a piano, what you get out of it depends on how you play it

I'll second what Pianistimo said about Temple being great for choral conducting. One of my choir directors is working on his master's now and sang in that concert on Sunday night. I am very sorry that I was unable to attend. He did his undergrad studies at St. Olaf and he just oozes talent.

Temple is where I will be applying in a few/several years. For me (moving is not an option) is is the best compromise of progaram quality and price. Curtis is out becuase firstly, I am not that talented, and secondly, I am too old to go there.  :o :'(

California Baptist University in Riverside, Ca. has a new school of music that's great.  They have one of the best recording studios in the nation.

If you're talking about Texas schools, University of Houston is awesome.  For piano, anyway.  I study with Nancy Weems, and she's incredible.  She naturally comes up with best crazy ideas and has an amazing musical sense.  Timothy Hester is the most insane teacher I've ever seen.  I won't even start with how much of an awesome nutcase he is.  Abbey Simon is there.  Ruth Tomfohrde is the sweetest little old lady who plays with a big, rich sound.

Seriously, the only piano department I've seen in Texas that stacks up against UH is Rice.  There are a couple of great teachers at Trinity and TSU though.
