If you're talking about Texas schools, University of Houston is awesome. For piano, anyway. I study with Nancy Weems, and she's incredible. She naturally comes up with best crazy ideas and has an amazing musical sense. Timothy Hester is the most insane teacher I've ever seen. I won't even start with how much of an awesome nutcase he is. Abbey Simon is there. Ruth Tomfohrde is the sweetest little old lady who plays with a big, rich sound.
Seriously, the only piano department I've seen in Texas that stacks up against UH is Rice. There are a couple of great teachers at Trinity and TSU though.
