Hmm.. a flaw in my searching plan... Nils?
on: June 09, 2006, 12:36:41 AM
I like to see all the posts that come in on here.

I do an advanced search.  I use * as the search term, * is the user, usually I set it for 1 day, display messages, and show most recent first.

I thought the * search term was giving me all the posts, a wildcard search term.  If a * is present, it is highlighted.  I assumed when no * is highlighted that it was found because * meant "anything."  However, today I notice some posts that slipped through that -- the pictures thread.  Now I doubt the method -- maybe other posts are sliping through.

Do you know why this is Nils?  The only thing I can think of is that a picture must mess it up.  Come to think of it... I don't recall too many posts appearing from the audition room with this method.

I thought I had it down!.  :P  >:(   Oh well, it still works and gets most of the posts I guess.

Nils, is there a way to set a limit on the number of days the "recent posts" goes back?  that way I could see all the posts from the past 1 day.

I think if there's an attachment it doesn't come up with a search for * or on the recent posts.  I'm still thinking...

Interesting observation, Bob.
I will take a look at it later but if you find out any more patterns, please post them here.

I think this has happened a few times.  I don't think I'm messing it up.

Same search.  Searching for a *, results displayed as messages -->> most recent posts first, for the past one day.

I go through the first page.  Fine.  I go through the second and third pages and then realize that some of the posts are a year old.  I know the first page was right, the regular search -- most recent posts of the past day.  But those other two pages -- no idea where they came from.

It happened again.  It's just odd.  I'm pretty sure it's not something I'm doing.  I have assumed the site was being updated.
