recordings of scales
on: June 14, 2006, 06:14:29 AM
i've promised twice now, to record me working (not just playing but working) on scales, and i have yet to do it. now i have finally finished my international competition and stress load is relieved. i now have the time, so i'm in the process of making it, i think i'm going to make it tomorrow, so expect it soon!

p.s i don't know if i'll play them as virtuoustically as you w*ould like, but it will be a perspective on how i work on them :(

Why would one record someone playing a scale?

and to answer your questions, people have asked me to do it because they want to see the different way people work on them... don't ask me why, ask the people htat asked me!
and the competition was the international russian music piano competition.

If I remember correctly, me and few others requested video footage from some of the more virtuosic members, so that we could observe the motions closely.

the competition was the international russian music piano competition.

Really?  I was VERY close to entering that competition... however, I was sick for 3 weeks in March, so with the deadline in April I decided not to apply.  How was it?

It was unclear to me that the TS was talking about video recordings.

Nervous,

Please, if you have some video footage of your scale practice, I would be most grateful it you'd post it for me.  :)

Not sure... is that a url?

If I'm thinking of the same competition as nervous_wreck, then here's the url:

https://www.russianmusiccompetition.com/

I would've been in a different age category than him, but I'm sure it would've been fun.

Don't worry. The technical difficulties will eventually disappear if you practise the scales slowly and hands separately. :-)

Well great, you've gotten my hopes up only to be crushed with such cruelty that I can just resign myself to the fact that my scales will never sound good. But seriously, you know what really burns me? That new keyboard layout where the spacing between the black keys is all equal, as opposed to all the white keys being the same width at the edge of the keyboard. I have to play on such a piano at my lessons and it screws up my scales. nervous_wreck, I would be most greatful if you post yourself working on scales.

I was at a large Musik-Messe (Music Fair) in March in Frankfurt, and there was a piano (I believe the maker was Chinese, maybe Nordica (?) or Pearl River (Pearl something?)) that had black keys with sloping edges, to facilitate sliding from black to white.
