35th in chopin 72/2
on: June 14, 2006, 08:39:48 PM
i just started chopin's nocture op post 72 no 2 (nocturne no20) & while i 1st thoughr it'd be horribly hard for me after a year & 5month of piano i must say it's going pretty ok (got the 1st 20 bars ok & up to the 28th memorized & in the fingers after 2 weeks & a half ) but since vacations are coming up soon i suggested to my teacher that we should give a look at the 1st page so i get some time to work up the speed during summer since there are some quite fast parts & i was wondering if anyone had tips on how to tackle the 35th (or however you name 35 in 4 beats ) on bar 56 as it seems it'll be horribly fast (i'm not overly worried by the speed since i know it always comes with time but i'm wondering if i should just go for strict rythm in the left hand & just stick 35 in there or try to have a more precise rythm overall wich sounds pretty tricky i mean 2 on 3 was hard enought to grasp so 35 on 4....)

any tips from someone who worked throught this?

It's actually not Op.72 No.2. That's a funeral march. This nocturne is the Op.Posthumous one in C# minor, right?

If so, I played this piece some time ago, and the best advice I have is to start by breaking it into 9-8-9-9, to match the eighth notes beneath. Basically, you want the top note to coincide with the third eighth note, and the rest of it will eventually jus become natural, the way Chopin's flourishes are meant to be played.
