what makes u happy?

i don't mean vodka or something like that.  i mean - when are u the happiest naturally?  do u think people have times of day that they are happier than others?

I am extremely happy after I do a great improv, and sometimes after Chopin's raindrop prelude, if it goes well that is.

Sometimes it leaves me with a funny feeling in my tummy.

good to be realistic.  don't want everyone swinging their arms and throwing invisible frisbee's all the time.

Difficult question, as there a many levels of happiness. For example, stubbing my toe up on the door does not make me happy. But if I was in love, would I really care? Would it bring me down into depression? Ofcourse not, it is superficial.

So I guess what Im saying is that superficial happiness, the kind that is transient in nature, is very different from true happiness.

I dont know what would make me 'truely' happy. But I do know that a good curry and a few beers with good company goes a long way towards giving me transient happiness.

That and good sex ofcourse!

I do not wonder because I have always known exactly what makes me happy. It's no use going into details because they are mostly mundane and ordinary and in any case experience has taught me I think differently about most matters. I can say with certainty, however, that beyond obvious minimal need it has nothing to do with either material acquisitions or complicated philosophy.

thanks everyone for sharing.  guess that it's different types of happiness at different stages of ur life, too.  agreed with the idea steve jones said that maybe a less transitory happiness wouldn't depend on the situation ur in.  although, having enough money for ur needs is nice.

life seems to equal itself out in terms of good and bad things that happen.  guess we need both to be motivated and not become complacent about life.

happiness (besides spirituality, family, and community friendship) for me would have to be piano lessons.  i have been going around wondering 'what is wrong with me.  i just don't feel right.  things are not the same.'  of course, i haven't had a piano lesson in (let's see) nine months.  not that my teacher is complaining.  i think he tried to get rid of me several times by doing odd assundry things that he thought would annoy me.  but, i'm totally in love with his teaching and playing -so there's really nothing he could do (besides assasinate me) to keep me from liking him and his lessons.  but, the problem is - - now that it's been so many months - how do i justify coming back?  i mean, it's not like i'm some great pianist who's gone on a minor hiatus.  i broke my leg and couldn't practice for a while.  now everything's looking like a pile of beans.  i've been playing everything i like and nothing really that challenging (because i don't want to practice it wrong).  i'm about to go crazy, literally.  i think i will tonight.

after watching angelina ballerina (for the third time today) i started thinking maybe i need a job.  playing for a ballet company?  i have to do something to impress my teacher to make him want to take me back.

I am always happy, even when terrible things happen. I cannot understand the reason to ever be unhappy there is too much to be greatful for. The fact that I can actually type my fingers on this keyboard makes me more fortunate than most of the people in this world, the fact that I can sit here with good health makes me much more fortunate than a lot of the sick people in this world. The fact that I can stand up and walk outside and breath fresh air, have the sun warm my whole body, and the sound of nature all around me, gives me freedom that not everyone in this world has.

I think I am very  happy when I am sitting with people I love, just talking and thinking about our lives, our past our futures. That is the life for me. I wish I could do that forever. I also find great happiness looking after other people, caring for people, seeing them get out  bad times.

I am probably most happy when I pray to God. That connection is untouchable by anyone or anything in this entire world. It is a private connection between me and the creator. There is an overwhelming amount of happiness there, it is like the entire universe is beside you saying don't worry, you might have these troubles up against you but these things shall pass. So too will death pass, and that holds an incredible amount of happiness it brings tears to the eyes just thinking about it.

i love ur response.  i don't feel so badly today.  ur right!  God has a way of making our 'bad days' good.  even a bad day can be a learning experience.  for me, i am realizing the reality of my 'fears.'  if u are fearful to make a mistake then u don't try.  so, am going back to practice more difficult repertoire - and e-mail my teacher to see if i get any response.  what's the worst taht could happen?  well after watching mad tv - i could imagine a lot of different scenes with this teacher - but i doubt it would come to that.
