Hi,
I just bought a copy of Beethoven's Waldstein Sonata, edited by Arthur Schnabel. I noticed that he often puts sequences of Roman numerals above measures (in order I, II, III, IV etc.) but I can't figure out why. I looked over some Schnabel editions of other Sonatas and saw the same thing. Can anyone explain what these are supposed to mean?
