Guide to Vocalist's Repertoire... (?)
on: June 21, 2006, 02:13:03 AM
I am looking for book suggestions along these lines. You know, similar to the guides to Pianist's repertoire by Hinson and Magrath and so on. Something that lists the repertoire and gives some approximate level of difficulty.
Thanks for any leads,

I can't say I've seen a book like that for vocal pieces.
If you live in the US, you might be able to contact your state's Music Educator's association - they usually prepare lists of several hundred approved pieces organized by level for the students to choose from for their yearly assessment exams. Mostly Classical arias, traditionals, and a few broadway tunes. As far as I've experienced, they don't mind sending out a copy as long as you are a teacher.
I may be able to suggest an appropriate book filled with pieces of a certain level if you let me know which genre you are interested, though I'm assuming you mean strictly Classical?
I doubt they would include any sort of grading, though.
Hope this helps.
