Finger pain, help!
on: June 27, 2006, 04:40:42 PM
I beleive i hurt my second tendon of my 4th finger of my right hand while playing basketball.
(The second tendon for me is the one away from the nail and the first one closest to the nail).
this has happened to me before while playing ball, but it'd heal after a week or so. NOW it has been 4 weeks almost, and someday it hurts bad, and some other day , it hurts less. However. I havent used my right hand during my practice time and mostly do left hand work. What can I DO to heal faster?? Any pillls, food, ?? help please!

need a little more info. what type of pain do you have? did you sprain your finger? jam it? is it swollen? is it discolored? for the most part you should atleast make a splint for it. You can buy the fancy ones or make your own out of a popsicle stick and tape, or some people opt to just use tape on the joints to impare movement. you should ice it daily to keep swelling and pain down, some people take antiinflamatories if it's really that bad. 4 weeks is a long time for it to still hurt, try the splint and ice and please dont use the finger! if after a few days it doesn't get any better then definately see a doctor about it

What Ttrent said, except please go to the doctor now and get it X-Rayed.

Four weeks is probably too long for a bruise. You may have broken a bone in your finger.

If you go to  a sports doctor, s/he should have an in house X-Ray unit, so you'll get the word in the first visit.

I hope you recover quickly.

Not sure it will be broken - that would be a break of a bone in your hand which would be extremely painful to the touch (on the bad side - if it is after 4 weeks it will already have healed substantially). I would try a sports doctor or physio rather than a GP.

I broke a part of bone in my foot. I thought was some other kind of thing. But when It hadn't stop hurt after some weeks I went to a doctor. And voila! It was broken.
