Hello everyone.

I just had my junior recital a couple weeks ago and am starting to learn new repertoire.  It will be repertoire I'll play next year at my senior recital, but also music I'll play for graduate school auditions.  I think I'm set so far on Prokofiev Sonata no. 3 in A minor and a Prelude and Fugue from WTC II, but I need a romantic piece.  Any suggestions?  I've always wanted to do Liszt's Spanish Rhapsody but I think that might be a little ambitious for February.  Thanks for any help.

take a look at the various medtner threads for some good examples of some romantic pieces. he wrote plenty of pieces, and most that ive heard is great to play and listen to.

A handful of pieces from Schumann's Fantaisiestuck, Op. 12, might do the trick.
Fortune favours the musical.

Is it possible for you to post for us a list of the repertoire that you have studied so that we may have a clearer picture of what is lacking or may be beneficial?

Best,
ML

Sorry about that.  Yes of course.

I have studied pieces like:

Chopin Polonaise Op. 44 in F# Minor
Beethoven Sonata Op. 2 No. 3 C Major
Chopin Ballade in G Minor

I'm thinking of a romantic-era piece that will show off my technical abilities that is good for both a senior recital as well as grad school auditions along the lines of:

A Beethoven Sonata, perhaps Appasionata
Rachmaninoff Moment Musicaux
Perhaps a Medtner sonata - I'm just investigating these and they sound very cool
Liszt Tarantella or Hungarian Rhapsondy

What would you suggest among these pieces which I'm considering, or any others along the lines of the ones I have chosen?

*Beethoven Sonata, perhaps Appasionata
*Rachmaninoff Moment Musicaux
*Perhaps Medtner sonata - I'm just investigating these and they sound very cool
*Liszt Tarantella or Hungarian Rhapsondy

Thanks
