I found it hard to get through!
on: December 23, 2003, 08:31:26 PM
I am a music student and we had dictation course this year. I found it quite hard to figure out the different chords like I IV V VI and their invertions. Is there any good way to improve the dictation skills?

Listen to "Tonic" and "Leading Tone."
C MAJOR:
I: C, E, G (contains tonic)
IV: F, A, C (contains tonic, but doesn't sound like "home")
V: G, B, D (contains leading tone, has the tendency to go to tonic)
IV: A, C, E (contains tonic, but sounds minor)
Try it.
