At 100 metres sprint, my money would be on Liszt.

Boxing, Grieg would get my vote probably on a knockout.

Figure Skating - Liszt due to his feminine postures

Ski Jumping - Grieg, coz he woz from Norway.

Darts - Liszt, due to his accuracy.

Hope this helps.

I think we are talking about two COMPLETELY different styles of composing and therefore its hard for me to say that one is better then the other.  On first glance...its kindof weird that you would have someone like Liszt with someone like Grieg because well one of them in my mind is quite abit bigger then the other.

Give me some ideas as to what you are looking for in response.  I definately enjoy playing Grieg more because its easier and just fun.  I dont see as much depth to his music as I do to Liszt...but Liszt, I mean come on its LISZT lol so much depth and passion to his work.

yep thats true. Its a bit strange because actually i like griegs piano conserto better than liszts. But grieg dont even come close to liszts solo piano pieces and etudes. (in my opinion) like "la campanella". I havent found any pieces from grieg that sounds even close to as beutiful. Thecnically liszt beats grieg big time. liszt is known to have one of the hardest piano pieces ever. At his time, liszt was one of the only ones that could play the inzanely difficult compositions that he made. He was a technically showman. I think Liszt also beats grieg in number of solo compositions. He wrote tonns of pieces ( and transcriptions) Liszt is also a superior transcriber. If i remember right, he wrote like (800?) transcriptions. But in my opinion, grieg beats liszt in symphonies and orchestras.  Liszt wrote specificially just for piano, but grieg wrote much for other instruments. (i hope im not wrong on that opinion).

I second thalbergmad. What are they going to compete at? Which game or sports?

Grieg wrote some good things. Others were just blah.

Most everything original that Liszt wrote was Amazing.
His transcriptions were blah.

I would have to listen to Liszt more and I know nothing about concerto's (I hate them).

What I do know is, (outside of concertos) Grieg is my favourite composer.
I listen to his Lyric pieces non stop.

Although I admit, if we put classical music in today's pop world for comparison, he would probably be considered cheesy.

he is known to have written a lot of the same e.g. re-writing his own stuff many times and in many forms, although it does display insane technique every time and this will never fail to amaze an audience. After the HRs and TEs, there isnt much left worth delving into cos you've heard it all before. But still, it is better to have written a lot and some awesome stuff than just the awesome stuff...
On the other hand I find grieg good but it wears on you and you feel the whole time that it isn't serious music. just for fun... Liszt is the opposite end of the spectrum and sometimes I laugh at him because he is so not funny and stern that it's like he cant take a joke. But Grand Galop Chromatique blows that one out of the water...

And how can you NOT LIKE CONCERTOS?!?!!? I agree that recitals are good but concertos are wonderful occasions for everyone - pianist, orchestra, conductor and of course the audience! Some of the best pieces of music are concertos... give Sauer's First a listen and then make up your mind.

I know...I am sorry. Everyone gets mad when I say it. I even understand yourfrustration, but it does not change the fact.

Must be a screw missing somewhere in my head.

I will listen to Sauer's first and let you know if I change my mind,
