Under-studies
on: July 04, 2006, 05:30:35 PM
So often, you read about some legendary pianist and how s/he "studied under" so and so. Does this still go on? And if so, how old is too old to study under a master pianist? 'Cause I'm 23 (been playing for twelve years), and I wouldn't mind skipping over to Switzerland to study under Krystian Zimerman or going to London to study under Kevin Kenner. What say you?

exactly what is the difference between under-study and student?  does the under-study get more attention.  by all means be an under-study.  do they pay more attention to u if you pay them more under the table?  just wondering.  is it like tips for waiters and waitresses?

ps  i'm still very pleased with the lessons at west chester - and was pleasantly surprised at the extra attention for performing and attending concerts and seeing my own teacher perform.  some teachers do give above and beyond.

I'm sorry. The title "Under-studies" was merely a pun on my question about "studying under" a master pianist. It wasn't meant to be taken literally.

If you have the chance to study with Krystian Zimerman, you would be silly not to do it!
Are you this good, that he would teach you?
If it doesn't work - try something different!

Holy cow, never mind. Referencing Zimerman and Kenner was only hypothetical; examples to illustrate and clarify my question. Thanks anyway.
