Pachelbel Sheet Music Request
on: July 07, 2006, 06:18:30 AM
I'm looking for Pachelbel's Canon in D. I don't want it to be transcribed or edited. I want the original version in it's entirety. I've looked over the internet for it, with no success, and it is also not in the piano street sheet music archives. It also can't be found at sheetmusicarchive.net. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

It's not a piano piece I think.

Yes it is. I've heard it played. Ok... the "original" may have not been for piano... but I'm looking for Pachelbel's Canon in D for piano that isn't made "easy" or altered by other people. I want the full version. The original version for piano, unedited. That's what I'm looking for.

That's the problem, there isn't any "original". They're all edited, best thing is finding a transcription that fits you the most.

I have a copy that is pretty crazy, but even still it is not exactly the same as the original, the original is impossible to play on piano. you would have to have mammoth hands.

I'll take it.

I have a book published by Hal Leonard called "The Classical Wedding." It has a wonderful Canon in D. It is a full-length, full-bodied straight transcription of the original. It's also not dumbed-down and is not easy to play well. Try to find that book at a music store, or online or something. It's a new book so it shouldn't be too difficult.

I have posted piano transcription sheets on this before.

I would try the search function.

I did that and did not find anything with a link to sheet music or anything. Sorry.

I believe the reason you find so many different arrangements of this song and not an ORIGINAL is because people are not even for sure that Pach wrote this song.  And they dont know exactly what was written.  They do know that the basic Bass melody was written, but the rest has come about from other people.

Poems of Ecstasy – Scriabin’s Complete Piano Works Now on Piano Street

The great early 20th-century composer Alexander Scriabin left us 74 published opuses, and several unpublished manuscripts, mainly from his teenage years – when he would never go to bed without first putting a copy of Chopin’s music under his pillow. All of these scores (220 pieces in total) can now be found on Piano Street’s Scriabin page. Read more
