Christmas
on: December 25, 2003, 05:45:02 PM
I thought it best to put this on the miscellaneous forum. First of all, Merry Christmas. But secondly, I would like to see how many people share my feelings about Christmas that I will describe here. It seems that over the past few years Christmas has really been kind of dull, and really it is one of the most anticlimatic days of the year. One waits for the day, then it arrives and one feels like saying: "Okay, now what?" I find it very hard to get "in the spirit of the holiday." Has anybody else noticed a similar feeling this time of year?

Yeah. I think a lot of it has to do with modern marketing techniques - really - they still have the *in your face* advertising method going. Our minds are funny. We respond to *hype* like the Olympics, SuperBowl, Christmas - anything that's become more and more commercial as the years go on. We have a limit of how much we can stand. For instance, we don't even watch TV anymore. Can't stand the constant hype over , of all things, the WEATHER! The weather as news blows my mind. Christmas has, for several years now been SO overhyped that it simply can't live up to the build up. So I am with you Liszmaninopin, I coiuld just skip the whole darned thing and be fine.

I've always hated Christmas (for several reasons) until last year, the first year I was away from home (and my country). I was really happy to just see my family for the holiday, and forgot everything about the fact about Christmas...
Happy Hannukah!

I really haven't gotten into the spirit of Christmas this year. Being in the Philippines where it is around 30 degrees probably doesn't help. I think I will spend next year in the cold.

So are you just visiting? How did your dad end up there? What does he do for a living? My brother is kind of a flake. He bailed on everybody here and landed in the Philippines, mostly by accident. From what I can tell you come from a more *together* family. Have you picked a school yet?
