try three weeks. and then another week cos i didn't want to contaminate my piano with chicken pox (plus practicing whilst on drowsy pills is not great). i was like wow i cannot play anymore. but just do what you normally do and it all starts working again after a couple of days

Lol i dont know about anyone else, but when you get back of holiday say for a week, and you havent even seen a piano, do the keys look weird/different. They look a different length and thinner. Its funny. Also music looks completely different.

Tell yourself "Okay, I will just work on such-and-such a piece for 10 minutes and my other piece for 5 minutes".  It sounds pathetic, but generally by the time you've played that long, you are 'into it' again.

It also helps if you pick a couple places that need 'spot work' because usually 5 or 10 minutes doesn't end up being enough, and before you know it, 45 minutes have gone by.

Remember, 15 minutes of practice in which you really accomplish something is better than forcing yourself to do 3 hours of mindless diddling!

Wow, I think I'll go practice now!

Is a week really a lot to you?

I have gone weeks on end with no access to a piano...resolved to "acting out" playing a piece on a wooden table.  ::)

I'd suggest playing some old repetoire first, to get into the swing of things again. Definately don't jump right back into learning a new piece.

slowly get back into it.  start off small.  don't stress your fingers or hands.

Yeah I know what you mean.

I kinda like it, when I first play after a long period of non playing everything feels radically weird and different and kind of... easy. Hehe.

I'm actually not playing for a week or so right now, as I got problems with my left hand.
