Cubase SX
on: July 08, 2006, 09:58:16 PM
Hi everyone,

Does anyone know anything about using Cubase SX? I've looked for an online tutor but I can't find one, and the useless help option seems to be intended for people who already know what they're doing, which I very emphatically don't. I understood on average about three words out of every ten.

I've been messing around for ages trying to do this. All I'm trying to do just now is play back a melody that I've put in (manually - haven't connected a keyboard or anything to it). So I've put in my melody, but the only midi "instruments" I can find are weird bass things and drums. They're working fine, they're playing back, but last time I used Cubase (years ago - a different version of it) there were loads of instruments - violins, pianos, everything. Does anyone know anything whatsoever about whether SX has them, and if so, where they are?

I realise this is probably either a) really easy, b) really impossible or c) making absolutely no sense whatsoever, in which case feel free to tell me to bugger off and find a proper tutor. However, if anyone has the (saint-like) patience to give me a moron-proof explanation, or to point me to a very obvious online tutor that I've managed to overlook completely, I'd be very appreciative. :)

Never mind - using Garageband instead. Takes bloody ages but it's a squillion times easier.

Did you remember to activate your MIDI controller?  You computer may have several and the wrong one is selected.  It sounds you are looking at the virtual instruments and that is where the bass and drums are located.

There are some instructional videos available.  Do you know how to use torrents?  ;)

I agree with you on Cubase help, it's never really been any help to me.  I had to figure stuff by myself.
Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach

The bit I was looking at was VST instruments, whatever they are. ::):) So I'm looking for midi instruments, then? Not sure if it's activated, I'll try to find out. Somehow...

No, I don't know what a torrent is. When I said I knew nothing I was being completely literal! Where can you view the instructional videos?

Thanks for your help. :)
