advanced piano teacher
on: December 25, 2003, 07:36:37 PM
I am looking for an advanced piano teacher for an 11 year old student. She memorizes quickly and has had very positive feedback in judges critiques of her competitive performances. Her repertoire includes Beethoven's Waldstein sonata, Bach's Fantasia in C minor, Debussy's Isle of Joy, Mozart's concerto in A major, among others.

We would like to focus on technique and interpretation and are willing to work long distance with videotapes or other suggested means.

We can be reached at Sallar1@aol.com.

Thank you.

Denis

Waldstein for an 11 year old?!  Jeez I don't think you want to be taking advice from a piano forum as to what teacher she should have!

Out of interest does she have any recordings on the net?

Well if you played it at performance level at 11 then that's amazing if you ask me

Again, where does this student live?

Long distance lessons are not the best option.

Well it all depends how you define "performance level",

For an 11 year old I suppose just playing all the notes with dynamics would count

How big was your hand span as an 11 year old?  Triplets in both hands, octave glissandi and the trills + melody in the same hand must've been interesting!  Not to mention the rising tenths in the first although you can jump that pretty adequately even with small hands

Here is the link to robert's information. Here lives in the Jasper Mountain area about an hour north of Atlanta.

I cannot remember exactly but I should think it was comfortably over an octave,

Sorry can't help you with teachers in America, you certainly wanna be looking towards a top teacher though (I can't guarentee anything I haven't heard your daughter play - but waldstein for an 11 year old is to me still incredibly impressive) - if she wants to make a career out of it (which, I'm thinking she might well do....) then you're gunna need a top teacher unless she's a genius - can't you look to the American music colleges and stuff I dunno how the teaching system works over there?
