Right-hand only pieces
on: July 12, 2006, 09:52:30 PM
What are right-hand only pieces?  Most one-hand pieces are written for the left hand so finding right-hand pieces are difficult and I injured my left thumb. :P

you could do something insane like - one of my friends was telling me someone in Sydney hurt her LH so she re-figured Prokofiev's 4th for the RH only.  Apparently there were some insane flips of the hand required!
Never look at the trombones. You'll only encourage them.

I know of alkan's grandes etudes and I don't think it sounds very good as music especially because it sounds like only one hand is playing.

I don't want to practice just the right hand part of a piece but specifically one written for the right hand.

I am currently learning Chopin/Godowsky's Op.10-6 for the left hand but that requires my thumb!  And since I cannot practice it I thought it might be a very well excuse to familiarize mysel with right-hand repertoire.

I have looked at Ravel's Sonatine and it looks like much of it can be played with either right or left hand.

Thank you for your responses.  I will take a look at Finnissy's Alkan-Paganini.
What speciifcally is the piece by bowen?

It sounds as if 3 hands are playing.

I took a look at the music.... ::)

I hate these pretentious 'modern' composers.  Yes, I am so good that I will be able to play the pianississississimos so quietly that you can't even tell I'm playing.

Do you have a recording of this music?  I'd like to know how it sounds like.

Can you tell me who plays it?

Btw. I think that even C.P.E. Bach or Wilhelm Friedman Bach wrote some easier pieces for right hand only..
