Help with this arpeggio please!
on: July 14, 2006, 03:56:04 PM
Hi I would like to know how to execute this arpeggio.

C - Eb - Ab - C - Eb - Ab - C

Right now im doing 123 1235 , but I have seen some do 124 1245.

I like the 123 more than 124 , just becuase i get more flow and easier to play fast.
But I was wondering if 124 would be better, or if it has advantages.

Whichever you like.  I would do 1-2-4, but we don't have the same hands.  I would find the 1-2-3 stretch a little tough - tougher than the 4-5.

I would use 123 1245

In first case (123) third finger on Ab is there because it's easier to play with thumb after him than after fourth, and in second case (1245) I would use fourth finger on Ab because that's natural position of hand.

But if this passage was in reverse (C-Ab-Eb-C-Ab-Eb-C) I would use 5421 421. Again because of thumb.

124 because 123 involves stretching which causes tension in the wrists. 124 is also less tiring.

Ok thanks!

I will start working on the 124.

I was aware of the stretch between 2 and 3.

124 seems natural for the hand. I will give it a try.
