Tchaikovsky or another Russian composer, or an anthology of Russian composers.

I need a Russian number for a November recital.

Perhaps you might prefer to recommend a Russian piece, something that's just a little beyond Intermediate. That would be equally fine.

Well, I'm going to assume you mean piece, not song.  The Seasons of Tchaikovsky are really wonderful and not terribly difficult.  Rachmaninov is my personal favourite but so much of his music is so difficult, you might look into his Elegy-Op. 3 No. 1 (not too hard), or some of the preludes depending on how ambitious you are.

That might indicate how unsophiticated I am. I don't know the difference between a piece and a song.

PianistStrongBad:

Thank you for the tip. I ordered Works by Russian Composers at

https://www.sheetmusicplus.com/store/smp_detail.html?cart=7142228827&item=3165868

It includes Tchaikovsky's The Seasons, 10 Rachmaninoff Preludes, and so on. Not bad for $9.50!

I figure if there's one piece in there that I like, I'll have gotten my money's worth.

Thanks again.

June and October are my two favorite, Barnowl. I have no idea how many years have you played. Why don't you let your teacher suggests something? She knows you better. Especially when it comes to recital...She knows what is appropriate for the audience.

Avoid autumn. Russia can be pretty depressing place in October and since all Russians naturally are...Mud, the leaves are almost gone, it is not winter yet, but it's already freezing. You'll depress the audience with October. Try February. It's nice. The air is so clean and crisp. Snow. Or April. It's offer hope after a long winter. April is beautiful and very easy. July is cheerful too. Whatever "song" you'll choose, do not play Song of the Lark. I think it is like Russian Fur Elise, except no one ever dreams of playing it.

Poems of Ecstasy – Scriabin’s Complete Piano Works Now on Piano Street

The great early 20th-century composer Alexander Scriabin left us 74 published opuses, and several unpublished manuscripts, mainly from his teenage years – when he would never go to bed without first putting a copy of Chopin’s music under his pillow. All of these scores (220 pieces in total) can now be found on Piano Street’s Scriabin page. Read more
